Feature: Blackheath Halls – The Elixir of Love by Donizetti
18 July, 2010 @ Blackheath Halls
23 Lee Road
London

This will be a treat for the ears, hearing some wonderful Italian opera in the timeless location of the Blackheath Halls.
The Elixir of Love, or ‘L'elisir d'amore’ is a two-part piece, filled with melodrama and dramatic tension as is so common in Donizetti’s works. This love story involves many men and one woman, some potion and a wedding. Filled with comedy, drama and romantic undertones, this opera is the most performed of Donizetti’s operas, with good reason.
This is Italian opera at its best and the perfect opportunity to become lost in an indulgent few hours of love, loss, comedy and tragedy, followed by a stroll through charming Blackheath Village.

Preview: The Greenwich Film Festival
15 - 18 July, 2010 @ Various Venues and films throughout Greenwich
Greenwich Council seem to be embracing festivals this summer, including dance, music (Jools Holland and Athlete) and Comedy. July sees the start of the Greenwich Film Festival from 15th-18th July. This uses many venues in Greenwich to show some classic and innovative films. For example ‘Sense and Sensibility’ is showing at the Queens House, the classic Sci Fi, ‘Barbarella’ at the Greenwich Observatory, Kings at the Greenwich Picturehouse and ‘Encounters at the End of the World’ at the Maritime Museum.
Viewing great films in these iconic locations should be a thrill with drinks and a talk thrown in. You can then pop round the corner for dinner and finish the evening off, what could be better, maybe cinema in the park…next year!
Review: Deptford Last Fridays, June
25 June 6.30-8.30 pm @ various venues in Deptford
Last month (June), saw the monthly Deptford Last Fridays, where galleries and art spaces open their doors to the public until late in the evening. As the summer nights get longer, this was a great opportunity for visitors to grab a beer and wander round, bumping in to the Deptford Art Tour along the way!
There was a great selection of exhibitions to enthuse, excite and enliven! SE8 took people on a tour of the Mulberry Tree Press, their latest venture, turning SE8 into a temporary publishing house. BEARSPACE had a raucous opening of EYE PAIN, by Isabel and Caspar Rock, who needs Glastonbury! The Lewisham Art House, Narrative Arts and Utrophia, showed between them a mechanical installation, page three girls demurely covered up and Nordic photography.
With all this on your doorstep who could ask for more!
