The Golden Touch
In June those eminent royal bankers Coutts showcase ‘Coutts London Jewellery Week’.
And among the exhibitors will be fine art jeweller, Ornella Ianuzzi, the youngest jeweller to ever have her work published on the ‘Who’s Who in Gold and Silver’ website.
Creekside Road based Ornella will be launching her new collection ‘Nature’s Treasure’ at Cockpit Arts Open Studios in Holborn, 14th and 15th June, as part of Jewellery Week.
The expressions, ‘All that glitters is not gold’ and a similiar phrase, ‘Fool’s gold’ always seem somehow pejorative.
But, in this context, they’re terms of approval because Ornella takes pyrites, the mineral known colloquially as ‘Fool’s gold’ as a starting point for a range of work – rings, necklaces and earrings that highlight the seductive qualities of the material such as the rich gold surface and the diversity of textures created through the crystallisation process.
This latest body of work was developed around pyrite materials that she collected last summer in Serre-Ponçon in the French Alps.
She describes the range as ‘mysterious’ and ‘sculptural’ and comments, “The most beautiful things in life and nature are in the details – but who stops and pays attention? The aim of this collection is to show how such a common mineral can be so unusual and beautiful”.
Gold standard, indeed
